Our mission: to help in the transition from drinker of quantity to drinker of quality. Along the way, we'll have some laughs, or someone's catching heck. Prolly me.

Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 "Zombie"

At once festive and contemplative, Nigerian Afrobeat (funk/jazz/psychedelia) legend Fela Kuti's songs are blissfully long and strangely meditative, despite their great energy. I often find my mind wandering to unique places over a beer and Fela Kuti. If you don't have access to any of Nigeria's excellent beers, I recommend a German ale, strong in flavor, but crisp in character. While you're at it, pour out a sip for Fela, he left us in '97.
Two more classics, one with a naughty word, after the jump.

"Expensive Shit" by Fela Kuti is about a famous moment in his life, it is not profanity for it's own sake.
